The Secret Life of Pets 2

If in the previous series Max (voiced by Patton Oswalt), Katie's pet dog was in conflict with the arrival of Duke (Eric Stonestreet) who was adopted by the employer from captivity, now he must face a more complicated situation.

With the background of New York City in the spring, this story opens with Max's narration while playing in the park and explains a number of reasons he doesn't like children. Max even considered them a threat. Apparently one day, Max had to face the 'nightmare'.

Katie married and decided to have a baby.

After a series of problems, Max finally made friends and built a special relationship with Liam (Henry Lynch), Katie's son. He even became a super protective dog, enveloped, accompanied, and protected Liam from lightning so the baby didn't wake up.

The story becomes complicated when Max and Duke are brought by Katie's family on vacation to an uncle's farm, where they meet Rooster (Harrison Ford), a guard dog on a respected and feared farm. But Max learned a lot from him.

He can live outside the comfort zone, fight fear and be responsible.

Apart from that, another conflict enveloped Max's friends in New York. A dog named Daisy (Tiffany Haddish) comes to Snowball (Kevin Hart) and asks for his help to save a tiger cub from a circus trap. Then, Gidget (Jenny Slate) removes Max's favorite object that was deposited while he was away.

Broadly speaking, even though the conflict has become more complicated and not only centered on Max's life as the main character as in the first film, the sequel to The Secret Life of Pets feels better than the previous series. The story is more sporadic, but is balanced.

In addition, some portrayals of the lives of pets appear richer and detail exploration. Their behavior was made in a way similar to reality.

It's just that, there are a number of points that might not make sense. One of them is how pets can easily make friends with wild animals such as tigers that are under pressure. Even though in the first film, with wild rabbits only domesticated animals must have long conflicts, even the core of the story itself.

In terms of animation, this film is also enough to spoil the eye coupled with musical accompaniment that feels right. Especially when the opening scene that takes the viewpoint of New York City with a variety of pastel colors, accompanied by the song Empire State of Mind owned by Jay Z and Alicia Keys.
